Australian shoppers in hysterics over ‘ugliest top ever’ from Kmart that leaves very little to the imagination

Australian shoppers are scratching their heads over what some are calling Kmart's 'ugliest top ever'.

Kmart's Openweave Long Sleeve Shrug has long sleeves but stops just below the collarbone leaving the chest fully visible.

Many were in stitches over the 'ridiculous' top, but others were quick to point out that the shrug was part of a set and was meant to be worn with a matching singlet underneath.

“Is this worn alone or with something?” one woman asked on Facebook after after spotting the top on Kmart shelves.

The post generated more than a thousand 'likes' and hundreds of comments from confused fashion enthusiasts.

Kmart's Openweave Long Sleeve Shrug, which has long sleeves but stops at the collarbone leaving the chest fully exposed, has left Australian shoppers scratching their heads

“You can be arrested for indecent exposure if you wear it alone,” said one user.

“Finally a shirt for us who have cold arms and hot chests,” joked a second.

'It gives doily vibes. You know the lace things the grandparents had on the tables,” a third laughed and another agreed, “looks like the dishcloth my grandmother taught me to crochet in 1980.”

“The stupidest piece of clothing I've ever seen,” one person added.

Others were surprised by the $15 price tag.

'Sleeves with a connecting piece? Certainly not a winner! They have full t-shirts for less than this price,” said one shopper.

“I really don't understand this,” replied another.

But not everyone was outraged by the fashion purchase, saying it sold a matching tank top that the shoulder bag should be paired with, as the 'Match it up' sticker suggests.

Some said it was called a bolero and could be worn over a top, dress or jumpsuit.

“I have so many and I enjoy adding them to a fit. It's more of an addition to your outfit than a standalone top because it doesn't have too much coverage, but trust me, it's cute when styled right!' one woman explained.

'I admit, this particular one you confirmed, its unique style may be a puzzle with all the holes and the off-white color, but it would look good with a bikini or matching shorts/skirt, paired with a classic black or white tee.'

Others said they bought the Kmart shrug, which has since been marked down to $5 on a night out with bodysuits, jumpsuits and singlets.
