Ralph Babet is a high-profile politician with the support of one of Australia’s richest men. Now he’s sparked controversy with a seven word conspiracy theory

Victorian Senator Ralph Babet is refusing to give up after being accused of spreading a bizarre conspiracy theory claiming the world is run by satanic paedophiles.

The United Australia Party senator posted a tweet on his X feed that simply read: “The world is run by satanic pedophiles.”

Senator Babet told Daily Mail Australia he stood by this claim and a number of other provocative posts on social media.

One of those theories is that the assassination attempt on Donald Trump was an “inside job” set up by bodyguards.

Senator Babet stressed that his tweets reflected his true beliefs.

However, Andrea Carson, professor of political communication at La Trobe, believes the tweets are part of a “cynical” strategy to raise his profile.

“We have an example of an accidental politician in the form of Babet who got 4,500 votes to become the second position to represent Victoria,” Professor Carson said.

‘When you’re dealing with small politicians with a relatively low profile in terms of their portfolio, they still try to show their weight by getting attention on social media.’

The tweet about “Satanic pedophiles” was viewed 1.2 million times, showing how valuable Professor Carson’s comment that “taking over or appropriating international content” was to the local senator’s cause.

“In a global information landscape, politicians like Babet try to get as much attention as possible,” she said.

“But if he sticks to local content, he won’t get much reach or ratings. The more sensational and controversial the opinions are and the more they can play into global stories, the more attention he will get.”

When asked by Daily Mail Australia about the wild allegations, Senator Babet reiterated his message about satanic paedophiles.

“We are in a spiritual battle, it is a battle between good and evil. There is no other way to describe it,” said Senator Babet.

The UAP representative would not specify who the satanic pedophiles are who rule the world, but he did rule out the leaders of Australia’s major political parties.

“Is Peter Dutton a satanic pedophile? Absolutely not,” he said.

“Is Mr. Albanese a satanic pedophile? No, he’s not, but then again, these aren’t the people who run the world, are they?”

‘They are puppets. Albanese is a puppet, Peter Dutton is a puppet, they are both beholden to globalist special interests behind the scenes.

“The political elite, who would rather suck the teat of their wealthy rulers in Davos than represent the people who elected them, are gorging themselves on uncontrolled mass migration,” he claimed.

‘I could name entire suburbs in Sydney or Melbourne where you can walk down the street and feel like you’re in a foreign country.’

Professor Carson described Senator Babet as a “niche politician” whose electoral chances can be increased by building a small but dedicated following, and who does not need to speak to a broader audience.

“They (niche politicians) use the big American and British stories to increase their algorithmic distribution and ultimately their personal profiles,” she said.

‘They don’t get the normal platforms where they don’t have serious ministerial portfolios, where they get attention for their policy initiatives.

‘So how does he get the attention and the looks he wants to get re-elected? He does it by using the algorithmic dissemination of sensational content on social media and that’s what we’re seeing here.

‘He will comment on everything related to traffic and that fits the worldview of an independent politician.

‘The more sensational the content, the more emotions are evoked. This is especially true for fear, anger and hatred.’

Professor Carson said Senator Babet’s tweets were “disappointing” in “a global information environment with low and high quality information”.

“When we look at the problems of misinformation and disinformation, one way to reduce that is to increase the quality of information,” she said.

“It is disappointing when you see the elite not exercising responsible freedom of speech. This is an example of how he contributes to low-quality information and the public takes notice.

‘Politicians are there to be leaders and provide direction, not to contribute to a polluted information system.

“I find it ironic that in one of his segments he talks about the degradation of political institutions, but with these actions he contributes to undermining public trust in institutions and politicians by spreading inflammatory content.”
