Aussies claim this ‘hidden feature’ in homes means you’re ‘rich’ Down Under

Australians have agreed on one detail in a home that reveals a person’s wealth status.

Roller shutters – doors constructed from individual slats of steel, wood or aluminum – are now considered ‘elite’ Down Under after a viral video highlighted their many benefits.

Sydney-based Chanel shared a video of her bedroom’s shutters that are activated with a button and completely block out all light.

“People always want to know how I can fall asleep at any time of the day, so I’d like to introduce you to my nursery,” she said, marveling at how her previously sunlit room was growing darker by the second.

Electric shutters in Australia can cost between $400 and $3,000 per window, with one man claiming he spent $10,000 on his entire home.

They attach to the outside of the glass and can be activated manually, using a battery-powered remote control, or electrically.

In addition to weather influences, roller shutters also protect against burglary.

Chanel joked that the feature reminded her of the children’s story The Princess and the Pea – and made her extremely sensitive to light.

Although rare in Australia, roller shutters are common in European countries and some parts of North America.

Many Aussies shared their thoughts on the ramen.

‘This is the first time I’ve heard of roller shutters. I guess I’m not rich!’ wrote one woman.

“As a shift worker who sleeps during the day, these blinds are a godsend,” said one. “I’ll never be able to live without them.”

“These would die so hard in the Australian heat,” another added.

“Honestly, if my blinds did this, I don’t think I’d ever wake up,” one person joked.

A few shared how they achieve the same darkness on a budget.

“I have two blankets covering my windows,” one man said.
