Australian Open fans are caught out in stunning video that proves they know next to nothing about tennis

  • Spectators at Melbourne Park give shocking answers
  • So far, more than 250,000 fans have attended the grand slam

Tennis fans attending the Australian Open have been exposed after declaring that retired greats Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal had a chance of winning the 2025 tournament.

TikTok user Connor Kennedy uploaded the video from Melbourne Park on Wednesday — and the answers to his question about who would hoist the trophies were hilarious.

The majority of supporters surveyed openly stated that they had ‘no idea’ who should win on finals day on January 25 and on Australia Day.

Another bizarrely declared that he was ‘not a tennis fan’ – despite attending the Grand Slam.

A third confidently declared that ‘Federer would definitely win’, while a fourth believed Nadal and Williams would both be difficult to beat.

Williams and Federer retired in 2022, while Nadal retired from the professional circuit last year.

Hundreds of thousands of fans will stream through the gates of Melbourne Park this year – and a new video shows many of them are out of control (pictured, supporters cheer on Thanasi Kokkinakis)

Another spectator said Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal should continue well into the second week at the Australian Open, despite neither playing at the grand slam.

Kennedy’s clip had been viewed nearly 110,000 times as of 12:20 p.m. Thursday.

He had fun with those he interviewed on the flight, even agreeing that “Serena Williams was a long shot.”

At the end of the clip, tennis “Super Brat” commentator John McEnroe happened to appear on screen – but the tennis legend was in no mood to respond to Kennedy.

Meanwhile, tickets to Melbourne Park this year start with ground passes at $59, with fans also allowed to bring their own food – and at the time of writing, more than 250,000 have already passed through the gate.

By comparison, general admission tickets were $35 a decade ago, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

On day two on Monday January 13, 95,290 fans made their way through the gates, which was a record.

The drama unfolded on day three when the tricky virtual queue at John Cain Arena broke up again.

Fans who did not receive wristbands were turned away – despite an abundance of empty seats in the venue.

Tennisgoers were warned that wristbands – introduced last year to give people unreserved access to a seat – were limited.

A subsequent first-in, first-served scenario reportedly left many fans furious.
