Australian mum’s horrifying discovery inside children’s trick-or-treat bags

An Australian mother is furious after finding rat poison in a Halloween candy bag used by her son and his friend while trick-or-treating.

Pennie Smith from the Illawarra region of NSW said her son Tyrell and his friend, both 12, went to the community event on October 31 and packed bags of the poison Ratsak, which is also fatal to humans, in their bags.

She said her son’s friend found one of the bags and was holding it when he asked her if she thought it was “funny” that someone had given it to them.

‘It shakes me to the core, I was just shocked. Who would do this?’ Mrs. Smith told the Illawarra Mercury.

She immediately grabbed both children’s treat bags and searched them before throwing the bags away completely due to the risk of poison contamination.

She found two Ratsak bags, but surprisingly one was opened and the blue bait was missing.

She has urged other parents, especially in her area, to carefully check their children’s Halloween candy bags.

‘Please keep an eye on things. “Imagine a child putting this in his mouth,” she said.

Ms Smith said she was furious when her town of Windang hosted a huge Halloween party with hundreds of children and parents attending and someone was out to cause damage.

NSW Police have said they are aware of the report and are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

WHAT IS RATSAK?

The brand of rat poison known as Ratsak contains the deadly poison Brodifacoum.

It is an anticoagulant that causes mass bleeding.

It is one of the most widely used pesticides in the world.

Ratsak tablets are wax blocks that are colored bright blue or green so they are easy to see.
