Australian model’s list of 117 reasons why women shouldn’t have children divides the internet

Ellie Gonsalves has divided the internet after sharing a list of 117 reasons why she doesn’t want to have children.

The Australian model and actress, 33, who has been outspoken about wanting to be child-free, posted the list on Instagram on Sunday and received a slew of responses.

Her reasons included: hair loss after childbirth, the baby may poop inside you, your vagina will be different, your house will never be tidy, childbirth can cause rectal prolapse, and you will miss things you enjoy doing.

“I’ve already received hundreds of DMs criticizing me and telling me how horrible and broken I am,” she wrote alongside the list.

“And while some of those things on my list are satirical, many of them are serious and factual. The societal pressure when it comes to this topic is really questionable and I think it’s unfair to people with different opinions.

“Very rarely do we see a voice supporting this because let’s face it, the public backlash can be too great,” the reality star added.

‘I think that once you decide to bring consciousness into this world… you can never and should not avoid that responsibility again. I don’t want to accept that responsibility and I don’t see myself ever accepting that responsibility,” Ellie continued.

“My position is NOT for everyone, it is for one person, the person I speak on behalf of, ME. However, it pains me when I see people who feel pressured to make this decision based on friends, family and societal pressures. I know this all too well because I have felt it and felt it most of my life.”

Ellie’s followers were quick to share their thoughts on her list, with many supporting her but others being highly critical.

‘So much fear. It’s better not to have children if that’s what you want to teach them. Gosh, so many self-centered people in this world,” one person commented.

‘Why are people so concerned? It’s none of their business, it has no effect on their lives and yet they’re so upset about it. Completely your choice!’ said another.

Another wrote, “Remember that you were once a baby and someone made the sacrifice so that you could have life and experience the gift of life.

‘Children are the most incredible miracle and the future of humanity. Certainly not everyone needs to have children. But biology doesn’t lie: the female body was created to produce the gift of life.’

Yet another commented, “Your ‘list’ of why you don’t want kids is all negative, but what about the positives? The positives completely outweigh it. Of course it’s a person’s choice whether they want to become a parent, but a lot of your list was, in my opinion, for very vain reasons.’

‘I never wanted children. Now that I have them, I know why I didn’t want them. Now that they are here, of course I love them and do everything for them, but the daily grind is hard,” said one mother.

“People who push children on you are miserable and want you to suffer like they do,” wrote another.

‘There are enough children in this world anyway, it is not every woman’s job to reproduce. Sometimes we need kids like you with a really hot body that protects animals, entertains and does a million other things,” another follower wrote.

‘I find it painful when I see people who feel pressured to make this decision based on friends, family and societal pressure. I know this all too well because I have felt it and have felt it most of my life,” Ellie wrote

Yet someone else said, ‘I am with you. I’m 40, have no children and have never wanted children. I will be happy as a mother of fur babies.

‘A colleague once asked me, “If you don’t have children, who is going to take care of you when you’re old?” I remember thinking (and I still do) that that’s a selfish reason to have children.’

Another parent offered, “Kids suck. Period of time. Ask ANY parent who can be honest. They suck 80-90% of the time.

“Then a whopping 10% of the time, especially when they’re sick and need you and aren’t crazy, sweet and cuddly, then it’s great to be a parent.” If I was a gambler, I wouldn’t do that.’
