An Australian man has died while trekking in a remote area of Nepal.
The 63-year-old man died while hiking to Tumlingtar in the Lukla region of Nepal, according to Inspector Ram Kishore Sha of the Solukhumbu District Police Office, who confirmed the man’s death to SBS.
“He fell unconscious and an Australian doctor on scene tried to resuscitate him but was unsuccessful,” Inspector Sha said.
The region is popular with tourists who want to climb Nepal’s peaks, including Mount Everest.
Inspector Sha said the man had only arrived in the region on Monday.

The Department of State and Commerce (DFAT) confirmed the death to NCA NewsWire.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Nepal,” a DFAT spokesperson said.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
The cause of death is currently unknown.
