Australian jockeys Jamie Kah and Ben Melham announce engagement on Valentine’s Day

Racing superstar Jamie Kah has announced that she and fellow jockey Ben Melham are proposing to each other on the most romantic day of the year.

Kah shared the exciting Valentine’s Day news on Wednesday by posting a photo of her lavish diamond ring as she snuggled up to Melham.

In another photo, the loved-up couple was seen holding hands as they rode side by side, showing off the sparkling ring on what she captioned as her “best day.”

“In everything you have been by my side from the very beginning, forever and ever @benmelhem,” she wrote.

The final shot in the series was a bottle of premium wine from Penfolds Grange with two glasses on either side ready for a toast.

Website The Sporting Base quickly tweeted their congratulations, as did well-wishers in the comments on Instagram.

‘OMG congratulations!!! Woohoo!! You two are like peas in a pod!’ wrote Australian Olympic eventer Amanda Ross.

“I can’t tell you both how happy I am that you’ve been congratulated 1,000 times,” another friend commented.

It’s been an eventful year for Kah, who was recently handed a 10-race ban for careless driving.

It comes after a horrific fall at Flemington last April.

Both Kah and Craig Williams, another leading Australian jockey, were thrown from their horses during a race.

Kah’s mount Flyball tripped over the heels of Veight, the eventual winner, sending her to the turf.

Both Kah and Williams were hospitalized.

Kah was knocked unconscious and had to be heavily sedated, but fortunately she suffered no serious brain injuries or skull fractures.

She took a five-month break from racing and made a spectacular comeback with a double victory in the Victoria Derby at the Spring Melbourne Cup carnival in November.

She ended the carnival with six wins, more than double the total of any other jockey.

In December, Kah was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Victorian Racing Tribunal after footage emerged six months earlier that appeared to show her with a white powder at a dinner meeting.

Kah last week paid tribute to Melham for his support during her recovery from the fall and during December’s investigation into the white powder controversy.

“My friends, family and partner Ben have been great, but I think my biggest support has been my horses at home,” she said.

‘Number one was the horses that went through a difficult period.’

Kah was previously engaged to fellow jockey turned trainer Clayton Douglas, while Melham has three children with his former partner of 15 years, Karlie Dales.

The first public sign of Kah and Melham’s relationship surfaced in June 2022, when a photo of the pair at Britain’s Royal Ascot set tongues wagging in racing circles.

Kah has announced she plans to ride South Australian mare The Map in the Adelaide Cup next month in her return from suspension.
