Australian jockeys Jamie Kah and Ben Melham marry in picturesque homestead wedding in rural Victoria -before belting out Daryl Braithwaite’s iconic anthem The Horses at reception

Jamie Kah and fellow racing star Ben Melham have married in a beautiful country ceremony.

The jockeys were married on Sunday at The Homestead on Rosemont Estate in Gnarwarre, located on Victoria’s Surf Coast Shire.

In photos and video shared on social media on Monday, Jamie looked sensational a flowing white halter dress that hugged her figure and had a short train.

She clipped a veil over her classic bun hairstyle, the mesh fabric trailing behind her for a romantic accent.

Jamie had a glittering clip in her hair and added a pair of dangling pearl earrings to her bridal ensemble.

For makeup, she chose a natural peach palette with a soft pink lipstick and pulled her blonde locks away from her face, save for a few stray strands.

The groom, meanwhile, was smartly dressed in a three-piece suit consisting of a vest, blazer and trousers, all in a beige shade.

He added a brown silk tie and pinned a dusty pink rose to his lapel, completing the look with deep brown leather shoes.

“We’ve both had some incredible days, but yesterday was at the top,” the couple said in a statement Race Net.

The beautiful outdoor reception featured a violinist who serenaded guests seated at white tables in the open air.

Guests dined on oysters, with a pasta bar, cocktails and champagne also available in the garden.

Channel 7 star Jason Richardson hosted the show, while Melbourne Cup jockey Robbie Dolan sang the couple’s first dance number.

Guests partied late into the night with the soft tones of a cellist and violinist, giving way to DJ Claudia Allegro’s lively set.

At one point the group joined the bride and groom in a stirring acoustic version of Daryl Braithwaite’s iconic anthem The Horses.

‘Mr and Mrs Melham. 01/19/2025,” the couple captioned images of the big day.

The couple had announced their engagement on the most romantic day of the year.

Kah shared the exciting Valentine’s Day news last year by posting a photo of her lavish diamond ring as she cuddled up to Melham.

In another photo, the loved-up couple was seen holding hands as they rode side by side, showing off the sparkling ring on what she captioned as her “best day.”

“In everything you have been by my side from the very beginning, forever and ever @benmelhem,” she wrote.

The final shot in the series was a bottle of premium wine from Penfolds Grange with two glasses on either side ready for a toast.

Website The Sporting Base quickly tweeted their congratulations, as did well-wishers in the comments on Instagram.

‘OMG congratulations!!! Woohoo!! You two are like peas in a pod!’ wrote Australian Olympic eventer Amanda Ross.

“I can’t tell you both how happy I am that you’ve been congratulated 1,000 times,” another friend commented.

It has been an eventful year for Kah, who was recently handed a 10-race ban for careless driving.

It comes after a horror fall at Flemington in April 2023.

Both Kah and Craig Williams, another leading Australian jockey, were thrown from their horses during a race.

Kah’s mount Flyball tripped over the heels of Veight, the eventual winner, sending her to the turf.

Both Kah and Williams were hospitalized.

Kah was knocked unconscious and had to be heavily sedated, but fortunately she suffered no serious brain injuries or skull fractures.

She took a five-month break from racing and made a spectacular comeback with a double win in the Victoria Derby at the Spring Melbourne Cup Carnival in November 2023.

She finished the carnival with six wins, more than double the total of any other jockey.

In December that year, Kah was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Victorian Racing Tribunal after images emerged six months earlier that appeared to show her with a white powder at a dinner meeting.

Kah last week paid tribute to Melham for his support during her recovery from the fall and during the investigation into the white powder controversy.

“My friends, family and partner Ben have been great, but I think my main support has been my horses at home,” she said.

‘Number one was the horses that went through a difficult period.’

Kah was previously engaged to fellow jockey turned trainer Clayton Douglas, while Melham has three children with his former partner of 15 years, Karlie Dales.

The first public sign of Kah and Melham’s relationship surfaced in June 2022, when a photo of the pair at Britain’s Royal Ascot set tongues wagging in racing circles.
