Australian Idol star Anthony Callea reveals why he had serious doubts about writing his ‘confrontational’ memoir Behind The Voice
Anthony Callea revealed on Sunday that he had serious doubts about writing his telling autobiography Behind The Voice.
The Australian Idol star, 40, told the Announce sun he found the writing process “confrontational” because it forced him to relive painful memories.
“It has certainly been a process. This is basically my life and I’m going to put this out there and it’s really quite confrontational,” he said.
“This whole process has certainly been a year-long psychological session.”
Anthony’s autobiography Behind the Voice was released on April 5 and takes a never-before-seen look at his rise to fame and coming out as gay.

“It brought up things that I’ve put in a safe and haven’t thought about for a long time because I couldn’t think about moving forward.”
The pop star, who rose to fame in season two of the competition, revealed that he actually auditioned for the show’s first season in 2003, but fled the studio, consumed with fear.
That same night, he hid in a hotel room, terrified because he left his parents a note saying he was gay before heading to the audition.
“At that point, yes, I knew I was gay, but I couldn’t even say the word out loud. I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror and say, “I’m gay.” The shame and embarrassment was too great and I hated myself,” he writes.

Anthony married actor Tim Campbell in 2014 after seven years of dating.
He confirmed his sexuality in 2007, three years after coming second behind Casey Donovan on season two of Australian Idol.
He told fans via his website, “For some, “coming out” isn’t a big deal. For me it was.
Others say you just have to be honest with yourself. Well, that’s easier said than done.’
