Australian Idol fans left furious as Dylan Wright beats Amy Reeves and is crowned the winner of the singing competition: ‘She was robbed’

Dylan Wright was crowned the winner of Australian Idol 2024 during Monday night’s nail-biting final, beating Western Australian Amy Reeves and Queenslander Dennah Baker-Moller.

The Bangalow resident was stunned by the life-changing news and almost burst into tears.

But many fans of the Channel Seven renewal of the singing show are furious at the outcome and believe Amy should have taken home the top prize.

Several viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment with the final results.

‘Call the police! There has been a robbery on Australian Idol. Amy is absolutely confused. Easily the best performer in idol history,” wrote one.

Many more people believed that Amy was the rightful winner: ‘I have no words. Amy was robbed.”

‘What?! Dylan won! He has a sweet voice, not a great voice. Amy was robbed,” read another.

‘Shocked that Amy didn’t win. I thought she was the best singing show contestant in a while,” said another Idol fan.

Meanwhile, other disappointed fans were hopeful for Amy’s future career, citing previous examples of the show’s runners-up.

“Usually the one who didn’t win ends up bigger than the winner, I hope this happens to Amy,” wrote one.

Another gave the example of Jessica Mauboy, who came second on her season of Australian Idol and is now touring the country.

“I believe the guy who won is a community radio host. You will be fine,” the Amy fan wrote.

‘Thank you. Don’t know. I’m about to cry! So thank you!’ he told the studio audience and judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines and Amy Shark.

Dylan walked away with a $100,000 cash prize and a recording contract with Sony Music Australia, following the public vote.

At the end of the show, he sang his winner’s single, Paper Heart, to loud applause.

Before the announcement, Sandilands said that both Dylan and Amy would have bright futures.

“As judges, we want to deliver the best we’ve found,” he said.

“I would like to manage and sign these two. They both have great records. Couldn’t be happier. They’re both just fantastic’.
