“I know it’s not an easy task to sing in front of strangers, but I hope the participants show us their hearts and the gift that is their voice,” she added.

Hines will serve as a guest judge when the series premieres in 2023.

The news will come as a surprise to fans after reports that Marcia was in talks with Seven several months ago, but the network decided to go in a different direction.

“Marica was in regular contact with Idol producers and maybe there was an opportunity for her to be a small part of the production,” her manager confirmed.

Her rep added that Marcia “long ago accepted that she would not be part of the jury of the new version of Australian Idol.”

“There was never an expectation that she would be invited back,” they said.

‘She has just started her working life and wishes the new team the best – especially Kyle [Sandilands]who is a dear and old friend of hers.

“Not that she would have said no had she been invited, but you can’t change television’s constant need for evolution and change.”
