Min Woo Lee is gearing up for the ‘biggest day of my life’ in the final round final bracket of The Players Championship, with his sights set on a $7 million payday.

The young Aussie gun will have to close a two-stroke gap on world number 2 Scottie Scheffler after giving up a share of the lead with a final-round bogey in a spectacular third-round effort at TPC Sawgrass.

Scheffler is at 14 under par, with another Australian, Cameron Davis, also in the hunt after a birdie on his final hole dropped him to third at 10 under par.

Lee, the brother of two-time Grand Slam champion Minjee, was feeding on the ‘Woo’ chants from Florida’s packed galleries and said he loves to ‘entertain’ them, showing no sign of nerves ahead of the final round showdown. .

Having led even for much of the third round after holeing out from the fairway for the eagle on his first hole, the 24-year-old is confident he can replicate his six-under round of 66 and emulate the exploits of his fellow Aussie. Cameron Smith. who won the event last year.

‘It’s really special to receive that singing. I had the same thing at the Aussie PGA last year…you couldn’t ask for anything more,” Lee said.

“I love playing in front of a crowd and I love entertaining them. So I hope they had a good show today and that I can do it again tomorrow.

‘Yeah, tomorrow could be the biggest day of my life, but I’m going to go out and have fun again. It has been the motto for the last three months. Don’t take it too seriously.

“I like to have fun and interact with the fans when I can. Unlike others, you know, they are very serious.

“So yeah, I’m just here enjoying my time, and like I said, I just got into this tournament and made the most of it and soaked it all up,” Lee said.

Lee, a two-time European Tour winner, is playing the event, considered by most to be the ‘fifth major’ for the first time, but is not deterred despite admitting the course is ‘terrifying’.

Lee putts in his brilliant round on Sunday morning (AEDT) that leaves him just two strokes off the lead.

Speaking like a player who doesn’t feel any pressure, Lee said having fun would be the key to his final round and the quest for the biggest paycheck of his career.

“There are many times when people have failed and you don’t want to be one of those,” he said.

“But as long as you can control your emotions and go out and have fun, which I did, it was fun to play really good golf.”

‘Obviously it’s going to be a challenge. Scottie is playing great, but I’m going to go out there and have fun and hit the best he can. It’s going to be challenging, but I’m going to have fun,” Lee said.
