Australian gamers are threatening to boycott PlayStation after Sony increased the price of its PlayStation Plus subscription service worldwide.
The service consists of three separate tiers, all of which are now significantly more expensive than before, and is billed annually.
PlayStation Plus Essential is now $95.95 AUD (was $79.95 AUD), PlayStation Plus Extra is $169.95 AUD (was $134.95 AUD) and PlayStation Plus Deluxe is $196.95 AUD (was $154. 95 AUD).
PlayStation Plus is required for all players who want to use the game console’s online features.
Many of the most popular PlayStation titles, including Dead by Daylight, Fortnite, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and League of Legends, are all online multiplayer games.

Emails have been sent to subscribers informing them of the price increase, with Sony claiming the decision is aimed at continuing to deliver ‘high quality games’.
“This price adjustment will allow us to offer high-quality games and benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service,” Sony said.
Furious fans have taken to social media to complain about the increase, with some claiming they are playing to boycott their PlayStation consoles in the future.

“How can they justify raising the price with the crappy selection of games?” a smoked one. “Most of them are from three years ago, or indie junk that no one has heard of.”
Another wrote: ‘Terrible move by PS, at a time when pressure on the cost of living is forcing everyone to make cuts.’
“This is ridiculous for such a crappy service,” another raged.
‘Such a big price jump. Definitely not worth a year. I will cancel my subscription when it expires. Thank you Sony for making this decision for me.”
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of PlayStation’s many online multiplayer titles that require a PlayStation Plus subscription
