Australian DJ Matt James, 33, of Mashd N Kutcher reveals cancer diagnosis in heartbreaking announcement

DJ Matt James, who is responsible for the popular COVID dance track Get On The Beers, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

The Mashd N Kutcher star, 33, said the diagnosis was shocking as he was ‘otherwise healthy’ but the disease spread quickly and caused several broken bones.

He broke the “unexpected” news Friday in a heartbreaking Instagram post revealing his chemotherapy and treatment plans.

“Unfortunate news, I’ve been diagnosed with cancer,” he wrote in a lengthy post alongside a series of photos showing him in a hospital bed.

“Specific Multiple Myeloma, which forms in blood cells in the bone marrow.”

He continued, “This was unexpected as I was otherwise healthy. However, it has spread throughout my body causing multiple fractures in my arms, ribs and more.

“Over the next few months, we’ll be tackling this from every angle with chemotherapy and extensive treatments on the horizon.”

Matt, who founded Mashd N Kutcher in 2012, went on to say that he will be “absent from social media and touring” but plans to continue working behind the scenes.

The Brisbane entertainer said he will focus on writing and producing records as well as “curating and programming the music and visuals for the live shows.”

‘Musically I return to the roots of the project (MNK). If you enjoyed Sunshine of On My Mind, you’ll love the next releases,” he wrote.

“In short, the road ahead is challenging, but I am very fortunate to have a great support network of family, close friends and colleagues.”

Matt ended his tragic announcement with a message of hope, saying he felt “mentally strong” and planned to fight cancer with “everything I’ve got.”

Multiple myeloma gets its name from the fact that 90 percent of people who are diagnosed suffer from multiple bone lesions Cancer Council.

Mashd N Kutcher debuted as a dance act and electronic band in 2014 with their first single Do It Now, which peaked at number 33 on the ARIA Charts.

However, they are most famous for their 2020 release Get On The Beers, a remix of a press conference given by Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews during COVID.
