Australian actress joins Chappell Roan in rejecting ‘overnight success’ label as she describes fame as a ‘painstaking process’
An Australian actress has been labeled ‘overnight’ after US pop star Chappell Roan also rejected the label.
Alycia Debnam-Carey, known for Fear the Walking Dead and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, emphasized that her fame in Hollywood has been anything but quick.
In a candid interview with Stellar magazine Alycia, 31, described forging an acting career as a “meticulous process” as she detailed her decades of work behind her fame.
“We’re so used to seeing the success stories of ‘Wow, they pulled through,’ but for most actors it’s a very difficult process,” she told the outlet.
‘People are not aware of how much strategy goes into everything and how much timing is involved.’
Alycia starred in long-running series like Fear the Walking Dead and The 100 before rising to new heights of fame in the drama miniseries The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, which also stars Sigourney Weaver and Asher Keddie.
After receiving four Logie Award nominations for her role in the Amazon series, Alycia is now in the spotlight more than ever.

Alycia Debnam-Carey, known for Fear the Walking Dead and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, has insisted her rise to fame in Hollywood was anything but quick
“It’s definitely not a career for the faint of heart,” she added, emphasizing the determination and grit it takes to succeed in Hollywood.
She’s not the latest star to reject the “overnight” label after singer Chappell Roan insisted she has long been doing the work she is now being recognized for.
“What’s so infuriating is that people are only now taking me seriously,” she said Rolling stone magazine.
“Like, ‘You know what, motherfucker? I’ve done this and you’re just now catching up.”
Chappell was hit with wild accusations that she was an “industry factory” after her 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, rose to global fame.
However, Chappell has been working in the music industry for many years and first released her now big hit Pink Pony Club in 2020.
“We’re so used to seeing the success stories of ‘Wow, they went through it,’ but for most actors it’s a very difficult process,” she said this week. (Alycia depicted in Fear of the Walking Dead)
Three years later, she is now seeing the fruits of her hard work and has built a worldwide fan base, although she is not concerned about actually becoming famous.
“I’ve never worried about the charts or radio,” she told Interview magazine.
“Part of me hopes I never have another hit because then no one expects anything from me,” she added to Rolling Stone.
Chappell has spoken out about setting boundaries with her fans, while addressing the “weird” attention from fans she started receiving due to her new status.
