Australia Olympic Games flagbearers revealed ahead of opening ceremony in Paris

  • Australia’s flag bearers for the Olympic Games have been announced
  • Jess Fox and Eddie Ockenden have been given the honour
  • The veterans will lead their team in Paris

Jessica Fox and Eddie Ockenden carry the Australian flag during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.

The announcement took place on Wednesday on the Seine, two days before the start of the Games, with a unique parade of boats along the famous Parisian waterway.

The 30-year-old Fox, born in France, is chasing three gold medals in the canoe and kayak slalom events at her fourth Games and is one of the biggest names at the Paris Olympics.

She is defending her Olympic title in the C1 and is one of the favourites in the K1 and the canoe slalom, a new event at the Games.

Fox’s younger sister Noemie is making her Olympic debut in the canoe slalom.

Ockenden, 37, is making his fifth Olympic appearance with the Kookaburras and has won three medals in hockey.

The unassuming Tasmanian has already played more than 400 Tests and could end his career as the Australian with the most caps in any sport.

Olympic gold has not yet been awarded to him, but the silver he won in Tokyo after a shootout defeat did not stop the 37-year-old from going through to Paris.
