Australians will observe a minute of silence as part of the country’s national day of mourning for the Queen.
The solemn moment was set to begin at 11 a.m. AEST on Thursday and be followed by a live broadcast from the National Service, the Commonwealth Flag Officer said.
A national memorial service will be held at Parliament House, attended by all state and area leaders.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese encouraged Aussies to ‘take the time to pause and think’, ‘wherever you are’.
“Her Majesty was the only reigning monarch to ever visit Australia,” said Mr Albanese. “In the coming weeks, Australia will continue to commemorate our late Queen.”
All flags on buildings used by Australian government departments will be flown at half-mast throughout the day.
Vice-Regal Standards must remain at full mast.
More to come.
