Aussie Dylan Brown badly injured in horror crash while holidaying in Bali flown home

A young Australian who was seriously injured while on holiday with his family in Bali has been airlifted home.

Dylan Brown, 21, suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing a motorcycle last Tuesday and underwent emergency surgery in Denpasar to save his life.

Mr Brown landed safely in Perth shortly before 8pm on Sunday.

While still in Bali and desperate to get Mr Brown home, his family launched a GoFundMe which has since raised more than $135,000, including $40,000 from an anonymous donor.

The 21-year-old remained in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital.

“We have found strength in each other and have been overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers and new friends, who have helped us in countless ways,” said his father, Steven Brown.

“Our loved ones at home have been there 24/7 for support and logistics. Your generosity melted our hearts, and we will never forget it.”

Mr Brown’s emergency surgery involved removing a large blood clot, which was putting pressure on his brain, and was estimated to cost more than $40,000.

“Dylan may be able to come home after this operation and it would be a hugely positive step for him and his family,” Mr Brown wrote at the time.

“But bringing him home will cost between $50,000 and $100,000, so your donations to help with this mean a lot to us.

‘We really want our beautiful, kind son and brother to come home alive.’

In an update shortly before Dylan’s evacuation flight on Sunday, Steven Brown said of his son: “His progress is hopeful, although he remains in critical condition.”

The GoFundMe to fly Dylan home and help cover his medical costs was the eighth largest in Western Australia this year.

Dylan is among a number of Australians who have been killed or seriously injured in accidents in Bali in recent months.

Perth local Shane Ramsey died from serious injuries sustained in a scooter accident in Seminyak in August.

Sharyn Maree Lewis from Queensland was staying at a resort on Nusa Lembongan, a small island in south-east Bali, with her partner last month to celebrate her 59th birthday when tragedy struck.

She was riding a rented motorcycle across the Yellow Bridge, which connects to Nusa Ceningan, another nearby small island, when the motorcycle’s brake suddenly stopped working and Ms Lewis plunged 10 meters from the bridge.
