Australian cricket star Jess Jonassen has lifted the lid on an incredibly poignant moment at her beautiful Hawaiian wedding earlier this year.

It was a case of third time lucky for Jonassen and long-term partner Sarah Wearn in April, who finally tied the knot after seeing their wedding called off twice due to the Covid pandemic.

Jonassen, a six-time World Cup winner who represented Australia 192 times, married Wearn on the Hawaiian island of Waikiki.

The decision to get married abroad came spontaneously, with the couple deciding to get married during their trip to the exotic location.

But although there was only a limited gathering during the ceremony, Jonassen is convinced that her late father was there in spirit.

“Dad was such an important part of my life, or even my career, that I have daily memories of his passing,” she told ABC Sport.

“I actually have a tattoo of a ladybug on my wrist. That’s the way our family symbolizes him.

“For some reason he just loved ladybugs and at random times a ladybug would just land on me.

‘Believe it or not, there really was. We were at our second photoshoot location and I was standing right behind Sarah and there was something on the back of her blazer, and I just wanted to brush it away, but when I finally looked closer, there was actually a ladybug.

“I got it on my wrist and I showed it to her and our photographer, he almost cried because his heritage believed that people pass by and come back to you and have these little points of contact and moments.

“We joke that Dad would never miss something like that.”
