Australia comes under BRUTAL attack on Twitter after their capitulation in India as Pat Cummins’s team receive the worst possible start to their sub-continent tour: ‘Simply outclassed’
Australia has been criticized on Twitter following its capitulation in India, and Pat Cummins’ side delivered a major wake-up call on the subcontinent.
Having zipped through the West Indies and South Africa over the summer, confidence was high among the touring group ahead of a breakout year with a four-Test series in India leading up to Ashes in a few months.
However, the tourists learned a lesson from their rivals in Nagpur, who posted a comfortable one-innings, 132-run victory on Saturday.
Unsurprisingly, the manner of Australia’s humiliation has sparked debate on social media, and not good reading for a team that complained about a ‘rigged pitch’ before a ball was even thrown, only to have it India will score more on the same pitch in one innings than the Australians in two.
“As is common practice, Australia’s second innings will once again be played at the rigged wicket rather than the way India had to bat,” said podcaster Ian Higgins.

One fan from India said: ‘Can Australian fans realize that Australia doesn’t just play well in India? Not in a long time. Enough with the accusations of tone manipulation. We were just outmatched.
“Australia has had a few Indian disasters in the last 15 years but this might be the worst ever considering the hype,” another Twitter user said.
“All that outside noise, shouting and shouting on the pitch… Nagpur test has been pretty embarrassing for Australia… pure incompetence against India,” posted a fourth account.
But Wisden’s editor, Ben Gardner, saw the funny side and tweeted: “I wouldn’t worry, Australia are just following India’s method of being crushed in the first Border-Gavaskar test before coming back.”
“Hopeing Cummins flies home after this game and a net shooter, maybe the Ashwin look-alike, leads them to victory in Ahmedabad.”
