Austin Butler’s ex Vanessa Hudgens throws shade in response to joke about her ‘genuine’ Elvis accent
Vanessa Hudgens appears to be throwing shade at her ex-boyfriend Austin Butler after he mercilessly mocked him for keeping his accent for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.
Butler, 31, has been roasting ever since he spoke with a thick Memphis accent just like Elvis Presley did when he accepted his Golden Globe award, even though he is originally from Anaheim, California.
Hudgens, who was first linked to Butler in September 2011, commented in a post about whether her accent was “genuine” that she quipped, “She went to acting school for Lady Gaga’s Oscars campaign.”

Fans were quick to note that Hudgens, 34, replied below her that she was “crying,” perceived as crying with laughter at the mockery.
The post came from a social media influencer. ryan scottwho has nearly 40,000 followers on Instagram.
The joke is a reference to the lengths Lady Gaga went to when she campaigned for an Oscar nomination for her role in House of Gucci, which did not go down well for the pop singer.
Her caption recalls the way the A Star is Born actress was notoriously mocked for her mediocre Italian accent while playing Patrizia Reggiani.
At that time, a dialect trainer who worked on the film with co-star Salma Hayek, noted that the New York-raised Gaga’s accent sounded “more Russian.”
And like Butler, Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, insisted on a British Vogue Profile that she ‘lived as [Reggiani] for a year and a half. And I spoke with an accent for nine months about it.
Coming to Butler’s defense shortly after winning the Golden Globe, his voice coach, Iren Bartlett, said: ‘What you saw in that Golden Globes speech, that’s him. He is genuine, he is not fake.
“I’m sorry people say that, you know, he’s still acting [but] has actually taken [the voice of Presley] on board,” he said, adding that the change could be permanent: “I don’t know how long it will last, or if it’s going to be there forever.”
Fans have been confused about the voice change since filming for Elvis wrapped in March 2021, nearly two years ago.
irene further explained why Austin still sounds the way he did in the film: “Due to the COVID shutdowns, he was working on it the whole time and it’s hard to turn off something he’s devoted so much attention to.” [and] time in.’

Vanessa’s snub follows recent backlash from Austin fans after she referred to her ex, whom she dated for eight years, as “a friend” in interviews explaining how she manifested her career-defining role while they were together.
The snub came when Austin broke a story involving his former flame during The Hollywood Reporter’s actors roundtable.
He repeatedly downplayed their relationship while explaining how his ‘friend’ encouraged him to pursue the role of Elvis in the Baz Luhrmann biopic.
‘The month before I heard that Baz [Luhrmann] I was making the movie, I was looking at the Christmas lights and there was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio and I was with a friend of mine,” he said.
I was singing and my friend looked at me and said, “You have to play Elvis.” I said, “Oh, that’s such a long shot.”
“A couple of weeks later, I was playing the piano,” he continued.
Public shadow: Fans were quick to pick up on this sly comment from Vanessa, implying that she was ‘in tears’ laughing at the joke
‘I never really sang for any of my friends or anything. That same friend was there and I was playing the piano.
“She said, ‘I’m serious. You have to figure out how you can get the rights to a script.’ She then called my agent and said, “So Baz Luhrmann is doing an Elvis movie.”
While Butler didn’t specifically name Hudgens in her reminiscence, the actress shared the story in 2019 during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan.
They were still together at the time, as he recalled: “Last December, we were driving and listening to Christmas music, and then an Elvis Presley Christmas song came on.”
His defense: Austin has said several times that the accent is “in his DNA” after working on the lauded film for two or three years.
She had just dyed her hair dark. He’s a natural blonde, and I was looking at him and he was singing and I was like, “Baby, you’ve got to play Elvis.”
“Then in January, I was sitting at the piano,” he continued.
And he’s playing and singing and I’m like, “I don’t know how, but you have to figure out how you can play Elvis. I don’t know how we get the rights or what we do, but you need to play with him.”
Many took to Twitter labeling him ‘disgusting’ and ‘disrespectful’.
“He calls Vanessa Hudgens a ‘friend’ PLEASE,” one tweeted while sharing a clip of the interview, while another wrote in replies: “She’s so disgusting, sorry.”

Since their split, both Vanessa and Austin have found themselves in new, long-term relationships.
Austin got involved with model and actress Kaia Gerber, 21, in late 2021 before becoming red carpet officials at the Met Gala in May 2022.
The couple later traveled to Cannes, where Gerber supported him at the Elvis premiere.
And for her part, Vanessa has just over two years of romance with MLB star Cole Tucker, 26.
Fans have since unearthed an old photo of Vanessa and Kaia reuniting at a High School Musical 2 premiere in 2007, proving their thirteen-year age difference.
