Aussies are being urged to search their names to see if they are owed $200 million in unclaimed money – with one person set to receive a $1.3 million windfall
A huge pool of unclaimed cash remains untouched as residents of an Australian state are urged to jump on it and see if they can claim it.
The Queensland Public Trustee has collected more than $200 million in individual payments, with one lucky resident owed $1.3 million from an estate.
The money was collected from utilities, real estate agents, accountants, share registries, investment companies and deceased estates.
“There are hundreds, thousands and in some cases hundreds of thousands of dollars waiting for them,” Queensland Public Trustee CEO Samay Zhouand said.

“I urge Queenslanders to search the register of unclaimed funds on the Queensland Public Trustee website and they could be entitled to that money.
“Last fiscal year we paid out more than 2,000 claims totaling $3.3 million dollars,” he said 9News.
“This year we want Queenslanders to help us beat that.”
Mr. Zhouand said the public trustee regularly receives unclaimed funds.
“In recent years, our largest amount of unclaimed money given to one lucky Queenslander is three-quarters of a million dollars,” he added.

The highest total owed to one person this year is a whopping $1.3 million.
The money is collected by the Public Trustee when companies lose contact with individual and corporate customers, after which the company must submit the unclaimed amount.
Amounts may also end up with the curator if a customer changes his personal details, such as bank accounts, addresses and names, due to a marriage.
The current pool of funds is $206 million as of September.
Queenslanders can find the Unclaimed Money Register on the Public Trustee’s website and will need a product ID and documentation to prove they are entitled to the amount.
