The 2024 season premiere of Married At First Sight may have ignited the ratings war on Monday night.
But not all viewers were happy with the return of Australia’s most controversial television event.
During the premiere, fans watched in shock as Tim’s best man gave an X-rated speech at his wedding, before Sara walked away from her TV husband during their honeymoon.
Following the blockbuster episode, critics on social media railed against Married At First Sight for airing controversial storylines again this year, with some even calling for the show to be canceled.
‘I don’t want to see any of it, so I don’t watch it. I can’t wait for the day this show ends!’ wrote one user on Facebook.

“Disgusting show,” another added, as someone else wrote: “Took it off after 30 minutes.”
Despite the backlash, Married At First Sight emerged as the clear winner of Monday’s ratings battle.
The Nine program dominated the war between Seven’s Australian Idol debut and Ten’s two-hour premiere of Australian Survivor, attracting a whopping 1.252 million viewers nationally.
Following the blockbuster episode, critics took to social media to blast Married At First Sight for airing controversial storylines again this year, with some even calling for the show to be canceled.
Australian Idol ranked second and attracted a modest national audience of 787,000 people.
Survivor, meanwhile, was left with a total audience of 572,000.
The ratings report also indicates the ‘Total TV National Reach’, which is determined by dividing the number of viewers by the duration of the show.
According to this ranking, Married At First Sight scored a whopping 2.451 million total reach.
Australian Idol scored 1.784 million, while Australian Survivor pulled in 1.126 million.
