Australian fans have berated Canadian rock band Walk Off the Earth for sharing a video of a female band member playing a didgeridoo.
The sacred instrument was developed by Indigenous Australians and according to traditional beliefs, only men are allowed to play it.
Indigenous communities encourage non-Aboriginal people to treat the didgeridoo with respect, given its cultural significance.

The video shows the group performing a rendition of Bebe Rexha and David Guetta’s hit song I’m Good (Blue), before the band’s lone female musician starts playing a didgeridoo.
Unimpressed fans criticized the video, shared it on TikTok and labeled it “disrespectful.”
‘That’s a hard no. Australians are begging you not to,” said one person.

“You did the one thing you shouldn’t,” agreed another. “The lack of respect for the didgeridoo,” wrote a third.
“So you are bombarded in the comments about the didgeridoo and this video is still available?” another questioned.
“Come on guys, you’re better than this,” someone commented.
While different indigenous communities have different ideas about what will or will not happen to a woman who touches the didgeridoo, most seem to agree that it is the man’s role to play the mostly ceremonial instrument.
A traditional belief is that women should not touch a didgeridoo as it can lead to infertility.
