Cadbury Easter bunny price rise to $10, sparking outrage from Aussies

Chocoholics are baffled by the ‘excessive’ price of an iconic Easter treat.

Shoppers were shocked to discover how much the price of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Easter bunny has risen during the cost of living crisis.

The 250g treat will fetch $10 each this year, sparking outrage among Australians online.

“If I had kids they’d be about to learn the truth about the Easter Bunny,” one irate shopper captioned the photo.

Many chocoholics agreed.

‘I just noticed that when shopping today the price is now /100g and not kg. This is $40 a kilo!’ wrote one.

“That’s some bloody expensive 250g chocolate,” said another.

‘The prices are ridiculous!’

Others said it was yet another reminder of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

“Inflation is officially out of control,” said one user.

Some remembered how a slightly smaller 150 gram version cost $4.50 just five years ago.

“These used to be $4.50. I would buy three for my kids every year. They are older now and don’t like Easter chocolate, so I just buy their chocolate of the day instead. I bet these won’t all be sold,” one person commented.

“I remember when these were only $1. As hard as it is, imagine you are a family with one income,” one Australian recalled

Chocoholics were urged to wait for prices to drop.

‘They’re always on sale. I just have to be patient and hopefully have a second fridge big enough to store it in!’, one smart shopper suggested.

A spokesperson for Cadbury emphasized that the price of the Easter Bunny has not changed compared to last year

“The shape, size and price of our Cadbury Dairy Milk range vary depending on the dining experience and product type,” the spokesperson said. news.com.au.

‘Cadbury can confirm that our 250g bunny referred to in the X-post has remained the same price since last year.’

Daily Mail Australia contacted Cadbury for further comment.

For those looking for a bargain and stocking up a month after Easter, the bunny is currently on sale for $8 at Woolworths, while Coles has dropped the price even further to $7.

Coles shoppers will save 25 per cent off all Easter treats sold until March 5.

The higher price of Easter bunnies is because cocoa costs have increased by 44 percent between 2022 and 2023.

Experts say rising demand for the product and the El-Nino weather system have also caused chocolate prices to soar.
