Aussie tennis star slams ‘fan’ who body-shamed her – and gets an amazing reply

Australian tennis star Destanee Aiava hit back at several fans on social media who appeared to shame her.

The 24-year-old asked X for one comment, claiming she needed to “lose some weight to get back on her feet faster.” The comment has now been deleted.

Aiava replied to the post saying, “Good job activating my ED [eating disorder]’

The Victorian tennis star, who is currently ranked 195 on the WTA Tour, emerged victorious in her second round qualifying match against Hungarian star Panna Udvardy today, sealing victory 6-4 6-1.

The disgusting comments came after journalist Ben Rothenberg shared an image showing Aiava wearing a pink Nike dress that matched the one worn by Maria Sharapova at the 2012 US Open on her first day of qualifying.

Rothenberg noted the moment, writing, “Fun fashion moment from the archives: Destanee Aiava wearing the same pink Nike dress design for her 2025 Australian Open qualifier that Maria Sharapova wore way back at the 2012 US Open.”

Destanee Aiava shamefully called out fans about her body on social media on Wednesday

The 24-year-old Aussie superstar responded to the comments, but received a surprising response

Replying to a comment that shamed her, Aiava wrote: ‘Good job triggering my ED’

Aiava, who made her Grand Slam main draw debut at the 2017 Australian Open, first responded to the comment before an unexpected moment occurred.

“No hating” or “body shaming” and then you started hating and body shaming,” Aiava wrote after the post.

But a twist in the saga would follow, with Aiava receiving an apology from the X-user.

“Hey Destanee,” the user began.

‘I was just rooting for you and I’ve been following your matches for the past 2-3 years! It was just out of concern and nothing else!

“I’m really sorry if it hurt you, I love your game and you as a person!”

The X user added two ‘love heart’ emojis, with the 24-year-old tennis star accepting the apology.

She wrote, “Thank you for your apology,” adding a “hug” emoji and a heart emoji.

Aiava added another message addressing the comment, before the X user apologized

The person wrote that he was “extremely sorry if his comments hurt” Aiava, who then thanked the person for his apology

It came after Ben Rothenberg published several images online showing Aiava had worn a similar style dress to Maria Sharapova at the 2012 US Open.

Unfortunately, another person posted a horrible comment on the post, with Aiava once again lashing out at the X user

Unfortunately, other X users took to the platform to send the Aussie star some awful messages.

However, Aiava called out another fan and took a screenshot of the individual’s profile and his comments.

In response to Rothenberg’s post, the X user wrote, “OMG, why would she wear a dress that doesn’t suit her at all? She messed up the outfit with her inappropriate body, her bulges covering the dress design, OMG.”

But Aiava replied: ‘Math is not math, be businesslike and don’t be a hypocrite xo.’

Aiava made a fast start to this year’s Australian Open qualifying, also beating 10th seed Anna Bogdan 6-4 6-2 at the 1573 Arena.

Earlier this week, Aiava caused some controversy after appearing to hit the culture surrounding the culture of the Australian United Cup team.

She revealed that there was aggressive and selfish behavior from her teammates that made her feel uncomfortable in the camp.

Although she admitted she “had a good time at the event”, the 24-year-old said the team felt “unwelcome”.

“I understand we’re in a competitive environment, but I thought it would feel a little different playing on a team and playing a team event,” Aiava said.

They did not play a single live match, with Australia failing to reach the knockout stages after missing out on top spot in their group against Great Britain.

Aiava returns to Melbourne Park on Thursday to face Eva Lys in the third round of the women’s singles qualifiers on Court 3.
