Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis showed his class with the bat by scoring a century in Edinburgh on Friday as Australia beat Scotland by 70 runs in the second T20 match.

Inglis, 29, used his feet to great effect and scored runs all over the field, hitting 103 as Australia reached an impressive 4-196 after 20 overs.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was born in England – and the ‘local’ clearly enjoyed the misty conditions abroad.

When Inglis helped Brad Currie hit consecutive sixes to reach his second ODI century, he did so off just 43 balls.

In doing so, he broke the record of Alyssa Healy, who hit the ball 46 times against Sri Lanka in 2019.

With the ball in hand, six Australian bowlers took at least one wicket as the Scots scored 126 runs in reply.

Xavier Bartlett, Aaron Hardie, Abbott and Sean Adam Zampa each took one and Cameron Green claimed two in two balls as the Scottish innings unravelled.

Marcus Stoinis excelled, scoring 4-23 in 3.4 overs as the tourists secured an effortless victory.

Australia now leads the series 2-0 with one game remaining.

Captain Mitch Marsh was delighted with the innings Inglis had played after coming in as first drop.

‘It was a really good game of cricket… and Josh was just unbelievable in another [good] “An overall performance from us,” he said.

‘We have a young group of guys who are given opportunities with flexibility in the tour.

‘There might be some changes for the next game, we’ll have to ask the coach [Andrew McDonald].

We can win now [the series] 3-0, that’s another great opportunity.’

The final match of the series will be played in Edinburgh on Saturday at 11pm (AEST).
