Aussie reveals the one ‘infuriating’ word you should never say when visiting a country town: ‘Millions make this mistake’
A Sydney woman has learned the hard way not to reveal where she lives when she visits regional towns.
Daphne Berry was visiting a ‘small country town’ in Australia when a woman struck up a conversation with her.
She said the woman’s attitude changed when she said she was visiting from Sydney and scolded her for using “the S-word”.
Sydneysiders were amused by the incident, but those living in regional towns agreed with the local woman’s sentiments.
“I’m currently in this small country town in Australia where everyone obviously knows everyone because it’s a very small town,” Daphne said in a TikTok video.
Citymate Daphne Berry was met with shock and disgust when she said she was from Sydney and went to see a local woman in the ‘little country town’ she was visiting.
‘I’m walking down the street and someone looks at me because I’m not from here – she was really nice, she came up to me and said, ‘Hey honey, how are you? New Year’s.’
Daphne chatted with the woman before asking if she had recently moved to the city.
”Are you new here? Have you just moved in?’ and I was like, ‘No, I’m actually from Sydney,'” she explained.
The ‘moment’ Daphne said she was from Sydney, the woman’s eyes widened in shock.
“(I said), ‘I’m so sorry, it’s just where I live,’ and she says, ‘We don’t say the S word here,’” she recalled.
The woman asked Daphne to tell Prime Minister Anthony Albanese “it’s not easy” when she returns to Sydney.

“I don’t know Albo personally, I live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, but if I go to Parliament House in Canberra… I’ll say hi to him,” Daphne joked.
Hundreds of Aussies took to the comments, sparking a playful debate between city and country dwellers.
“I live in Brisbane and when I hear someone from Sydney I make the same face so I understand,” one viewer joked.
‘I thank my lucky stars every day that I get to live in Sydney, I love it!’ said another.
“Anyone who isn’t from Sydney hates people from Sydney,” a third added.
“That sounds like where I live (Katherine, NT) except when I tell people I’m from Melbourne they say something about Dan Andrew’s,” laughed a fourth.
