Aussie retiree is $8million richer after eye-watering Oz Lotto win – as he reveals how he will spend the money

A pensioner is now $8 million richer after an eye-watering Oz Lotto win.

The man, from Bentley Park in Cairns, was having breakfast with his wife when he received the life-changing news on Tuesday morning.

He had left a dentist appointment when he decided to buy a Lotto ticket.

The pensioner was the only winning entry from division one in the 1599 Oz Lotto draw.

‘Oh my! That’s incredible!’ he said to Oz Lotto.

‘This will make life so much easier. I’ve been playing lotteries since the beginning – God knows!’

“Who would have thought this ticket would make an eight million dollar profit?”

With the shock still fresh, the man said he’s not sure what the windfall would be spent on, but confirmed he has at least one purchase in mind.

“I’m really not sure, but I’m definitely going to buy a new car,” he said.

The lucky ticket was purchased from Market Place News in Centenary Park Place, with owner Sally Tyrie saying the team were ‘so excited’ after the win.

‘I think selling the ticket is the next best thing after winning. There will be a lot of celebration and excitement in the store this week,” Ms Tyrie said.

“We’re definitely going to put up some balloons and get ready to sell our next winning ticket.”

Ms Tyrie revealed this was the store’s winning entry from division one, the last of which sold in November 2019.

“These winning moments are why we do what we do,” she said.

“Eight million dollars is a life-changing amount and we are so happy for our winner. We wish them all the best, because good times are ahead of them. Congratulations!’

The winning numbers in Tuesday’s draw were 30, 46, 44, 14, 45, 42 and 6, while the additional numbers were 16, 15 and 21.
