A mother has revealed she lied to her son about his terminal cancer.
On Wednesday The Kyle & Jackie O ShowA listener named Maria called into the regular ‘Confession Booth’ segment of the breakfast show to confess her guilt to her son, Mustafa.
Maria told presenters Jackie O Henderson and Kyle Sandilands that her son was a misbehaved and party-goer as a child, so as a single mother she decided to pretend to be terminally ill.
She believed that if she blamed him for her health problems, the young man would feel guilty and straighten out.
“I said I have cancer and I don’t have long to live because the disease has spread. It’s all because of the stress and fear you’re causing me with your behavior,” the mother confessed to the hosts.
“And now he’s a completely different child. I’m amazed at how it worked. He’s such a different person,” she added.
Maria says she has been perpetuating the lie for the past year by arranging fake appointments, forging medical letters and even arranging for Mustafa to drop her off at the hospital.
Stunned presenter Kyle, 53, said: ‘He takes you to hospital for what he thinks is cancer treatment and you just sit in the cafeteria eating cakes and coffee?’

Maria confirmed this, before the hosts called her son so she could finally confess her deception.
“I don’t have cancer and I’m not going to die,” Maria told her son, who was stunned by the revelation.
“I just had to do this to get you back on track and hopefully you’ll forgive me.”
“Wait, let me get this straight,” Mustafa said. “You told me you were sick when you weren’t, so I could settle down and take care of you?”
“I’m sorry,” she said, “but I’m cancer free.”

Jackie, 49, then asked if he could forgive his mother for her year-long lie.
“It’s going to take a while because I’m just speechless. I don’t know what to say,” Mustafa said.
Kyle concluded the segment by stating that Maria “did the wrong thing for the right reasons.”
“I don’t know,” Mustafa replied, “I think we need to talk, Mom.”
