Australian influencer Curvy Sam discovers that her villa in Bali is next to a construction site
A plus-size model and fashion blogger has had her Bali villa bulldozed after she arrived to find a huge construction site next door.
Brisbane vlogger Curvy Sam said she saved her hard-earned money to spend a few nights in a luxury private villa in the Indonesian hotspot, where she could shoot content for her clothing company, At Home with Hilda, and social media platforms.
But when she arrived, she saw a large black tarp covering part of her fence and construction workers next door peeking into her pool.
“Honestly, I feel like crying,” she said on Wednesday in a TikTok that has since been viewed more than 296,000 times.
‘This is the not fun side of traveling alone, especially in Bali.
‘I have just arrived at my accommodation, while the photos were beautiful, there is a building site next to it with no privacy.’
Curvy Sam (above) said her dream villa in Bali became a ‘nightmare’ when she discovered a large construction site next door
Sam said she booked the stay through Airbnb and was heartbroken to find it didn’t meet her expectations.
‘Stuff from the construction site fell into the swimming pool. This (the construction work) will last from 7.30am to 5pm,” she said as hammering and banging could be heard in the background.
“I’m here, in this villa, to make video recordings, to talk to the camera, and that’s not possible.”
She went on to explain how the stay had depleted her budget, which has been tight since launching her business in April.
‘This is so frustrating, I saved up to come here. “I’m a new company, I’m just trying to come by and show my new collection,” she said.
‘Where I live in Brisbane it’s very loud and very dark – it’s this noise, constantly, every day in the apartment I’m in.
‘This probably sounds very pretentious, but I’m upset because I really wanted to come here and relax. None of the reviews said anything about a construction site.”
In another video, Sam said she tried to enjoy a bagel while swimming in the pool, but gravel from the spot kept falling on her.
She further explained her frustration, writing, “Honestly this is my worst nightmare. It is a beautiful, remote location and it is not the fault of the owners nor the employees.
“I looked on Google Maps and read all their reviews. The Villa Manager is so wonderful and so apologetic.
“I just really needed this mental respite and some rest. Moreover, I planned to film video content. You all know I like to talk to the camera.
‘These two nights have cost me more than my entire nine days in Bali so far.’
Fortunately, the villa owners did their best to organize breaks with the construction crew and inform Sam of their timetable.
Sam (pictured pointing to the construction workers) said gravel fell on her while she was swimming and she couldn’t take videos because of the noise
The commenters under the videos understood Sam’s plight and urged her to take time to relax or ask for a refund.
“Take a few deep breaths and get a nice massage,” one person wrote.
‘I would be absolutely devastated. Try to get your money back,” said another.
The blogger has since said she changed her flight to return to Australia earlier.
She added that Airbnb had been in contact with her.
