A traveler keen to save pennies at a popular international destination was duped after asking how much a nasi goreng costs.

The tourist who was enjoying a holiday in Bali, Indonesia with her family, was mocked on a popular Facebook page after asking about the cost of Wednesday’s meal.

But some in the group warned her that she would get food poisoning if she sought out the cheapest food, while others criticized her for not trying to spend more on the island to help the locals.

But most of the comments were shut down by the group’s moderator, who said that “some people are on a tight budget to backpack around the world.”

“It’s getting to the point where people are afraid to post a question without being trolled and judged,” another commenter wrote.

“Maybe she’s just trying to get a rough guide to pricing so she can stay informed and save money for vacations.”

‘Not everyone can just go on vacation, some of us have to plan, save etc.’

Another commenter estimated the cost of the popular Bali dish (pictured, file image) to be around ‘$2.50 with an egg’

‘Why is this lady being beaten for asking the question she has been asked?’ asked another.

Not everyone has been to Bali before! Why do people have to be stupid?

Meanwhile, another commenter estimated the cost of the popular Bali dish to be around “$2.50 with an egg.”

Some Bali travel experts recommended the cheapest ‘Warung’ kiosk or small shop to get the cheapest food.

One said that eating the dish at the ‘Lusy Warung’ restaurant would cost an Australian tourist $3, while other restaurants charged between $5 and $8.
