- The store’s “fuel lock” feature has saved her hundreds of dollars
A driver has discovered a budget-friendly hack that can save you up to $42 by refilling your car’s fuel tank.
Alex Davidson, from Newcastle, recently revealed that she uses the My 7-Eleven app to record the lowest petrol price in her area and redeem it the next time her car runs low on fuel.
The app ‘stores’ prices for seven days – useful at a time when fuel prices fluctuate without warning.
Drivers can use the app’s search function to browse prices at 7-Eleven gas stations around them and choose the amount and location that best suits their needs, but they can only use the “locked price” once .
Alex was overjoyed after saving $18 on her recent fill-up and vowed never to stop using the handy tool.

“This is a PSA (public service announcement),” Alex said in a clip.
This is your cue to “burn” your gas prices if you’re not using the 7-Eleven app. I just saved $18 on my fuel because I got a good price and it lasts seven days!”
“The man behind the counter was literally shocked at how much I saved on gas,” she revealed.
Many other Aussie drivers shared the ‘crazy’ amounts they saved while using the little-known feature.
“I saved $42 once!” said a woman. “Closed in Premium 98 for $1.60 in Bathurst and refueled in Sydney where it was $2.40.”
“I saved $25 the other day, I was so happy,” added another. “Prices have gone up since I did it.”
“Love 7-Eleven fuel lock – I’m pretty sure I saved hundreds,” one woman wrote.
Some even shared additional ways for drivers to make the most of their savings.
“Try to pin it on a Tuesday because I was told there is a cheap Tuesday special,” one man said.
“There’s another hack, change your phone’s virtual location to the cheapest in the country, then lock it!” revealed another.
