Aussie newlywed dies in Bali while swimming at a beach as honeymoon with his wife takes a tragic turn days after couple tied the knot at their wedding
A newlywed Australian tourist in Bali has drowned after being swept out to sea by a strange wave.
Jacob Vennix, 32, and his new wife, 38-year-old Kimberly Ann, were celebrating their honeymoon at Pasut Beach, about 30 kilometers west of Denpasar, when tragedy struck on Monday.
The couple were swimming when Mr Vennix became stuck in a rip at around 3.50pm.
‘Around 4 p.m. Jacob was swept out to sea by the current. His wife Kimberly Ann immediately asked for help,” Tabanan police spokesperson I Gusti Made Berata said.
A local fisherman rushed to help Mr Vennix into his boat, but had difficulty reaching him due to the changing currents.
When he was finally able to help the Australian on board, a large wave capsized the boat.
‘The victim was later swept away to the beach by the wave. “Some locals and the victim’s wife, who were waiting on the beach, immediately tried to rescue the victim,” Berata said.
“The victim’s condition was unconscious.”
