Sydney dad meets his precious baby girl after making mercy dash to the US

An Australian father faced with the heartbreaking prospect of his baby daughter being put up for adoption has met his precious little girl for the first time after a panicked flight to the other side of the world.

Dan Gaut, from Sydney’s North Shore, boarded the first plane to the US on Monday after the tradie found out his ex-girlfriend Liv had gone into labor a day earlier.

Liv had dropped the shocking news that she was planning to put their daughter up for adoption, prompting him to take action.

He recalled how he didn’t sleep during the 15-hour flight to Texas before describing the “magical” moment he met baby Ana for the first time.

Ana was born on Monday at 8pm Sydney time.

“She’s just the cutest little thing, she’s so good, she’s just adorable and just picture perfect,” he shared A current issue as he showed off his two-day-old bundle of joy.

“It was like whatever fear or possible awkwardness I had been thinking about at that moment just disappeared.

‘The love for her took over and it was such a magical moment of love that I just couldn’t wait to hold her.

‘She’s just an angel, really chill, that’s phenomenal, I couldn’t ask for anything more.’

Mr Gaut is cherishing every moment with his daughter as he comes to terms with first-time fatherhood and prepares to bring his little girl back to Australia.

He takes it a day.

“I just feel like I’m in training mode,” he said.

‘I can’t tie myself in knots thinking about all the stages along the way, so it’s just one day at a time.’

He also revealed that his ex, who moved back to Texas and got back from her former partner, has now expressed interest in being part of Ana’s life.

She is even willing to make the trip to Australia to accompany Mr. Gaut because he was nervous about flying alone with baby Ana.

“She has clearly said how much she loves her (Ana) and wants to be part of the baby’s life,” he said

“We don’t know how it will go, but she is very supportive when I bring the baby to Australia.”

But it may be some time before Mr Gaut can take her home to meet her Australian family.

He has begun the arduous process of organizing the migration papers so he can bring Ana home.

“I need a US passport which, even if I fast track it, could take up to five weeks,” he said.

“Once I get the passport in my hands (the next step is) to get one of the ETA apps for the Australian visa for her and then we apply for her Australian citizenship at the same time.”

The ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) app allows non-citizens to travel to Australia for up to one year or the life of their passport, whichever is shorter.

The app allows users to digitally store their visas, linked to their passport number.

Mr Gaut previously explained that he was heartbroken when his ex told him she was considering putting Ana up for adoption.

He met Liv, who he thought was “the love of his life.” while on vacation in the US.

The couple was inseparable and soon found out they were expecting their first child together.

However, cracks began to appear in their relationship when his girlfriend returned home to Texas feeling homesick, feeling like she needed to be closer to her support network.

After what was supposed to be a ‘visit’, Mr Gaut received the devastating news that Liv was not returning, setting him on a determined path to raising his daughter alone.

Mr Gaut, who had little money, relied on community donations to complete the paperwork in the US to bring his child to Australia.

A crowdfunding page was set up to raise $30,000 so Gaut could travel to the US and get an Australian passport for his daughter.
