India’s anger over dramatic defeat to Australia in the Boxing Day Test continues to rage, with hundreds of fans targeting Travis Head and his wife after the Australian star’s bizarre celebration.
The match appeared to be heading for a draw, with India sitting at 3/121 when Head got Rishabh Pant to Skype a ball to Mitch Marsh in the outfield.
The wicket caused a bizarre celebration, with the off-spinner simulating dipping his spinning finger in ice.
It didn’t take long for outraged fans to lash out at Head on social media.
Former international player and politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu, demanded sanctions against the chief for insulting the nation of India.
“Travis Head’s obnoxious behavior during the Melbourne test is not good for the gentleman’s game,” Sidhu wrote on X.

Head’s wife Jessica faced nasty comments on social media, with her social media flooded with nasty messages and pig emojis
‘(It) sets the worst possible example when there are children, women, young and old watching the match.
“This caustic behavior offended not one individual, but a nation of 1.5 billion Indians.
“Severe punishments must be imposed that will deter future generations so that no one dares to follow his example!!!”
Hundreds of comments have since targeted Head on social media – and even Head’s wife Jessica.
Jessica, who gave birth to the couple’s second child last month, has seen her Instagram account bombarded with mean comments and pig emojis.
Pat Cummins’ wife Becky has also received similar abuse from angry fans.
Cummins confirmed that Head’s celebration was a running joke in the team during his post-match press conference.
‘Ah! I can explain that,” Cummins said, laughing. “His finger is so hot he has to put it in a cup of ice!” That’s it.
Australian skipper Pat Cummins has confirmed that Head’s celebration was a harmless joke
“Normally that’s the running joke. Was it the Gabba or somewhere he got a wicket too, goes straight to the fridge, grabs a bucket of ice, sticks his finger in it and walks straight in front of Lyno. Just like that. Find it very funny.
“So that would have been it… Nothing else!”
A photo on social media posted after that match against Sri Lanka showed Head dipping his index finger into a glass full of ice.
If Australia can lift the trophy in Sydney, it would be the first time since the 1997 Ashes that they have recovered from a 0-1 deficit to win a Test series.
It would mark a dramatic turnaround after being embarrassed by India in Perth to start this blockbuster five-Test battle.
