Australian sporting legend David Warner enjoyed a full-circle moment when his daughter Ivy began training for the South East cricket team in Sydney this week.

Warner, 37, played for the best local players in his age group as a youngster and went on to enjoy a successful career in the top-flight game.

Now it’s Ivy’s turn. This young man is also considered an extremely talented tennis player and football player.

She is expected to play for the South Eastern Academy first girls’ team this summer.

Monday to Instagram, Warner uploaded a photo of himself as a child in the same sportswear alongside Ivy, declaring: ‘I absolutely love this. It makes me laugh so much.’

This comes after the explosive batsman signed a two-year contract with the Sydney Thunder earlier this month ahead of the 14th edition of the Big Bash.

“There’s a lot of great people there, a great coach … and I’ve always been a part of the Thunder,” Warner said.

‘Last year I really liked the atmosphere, the group we had brought a lot of energy.

‘We had a lot of fun on the field, and off the field we clicked really well… I think we can still improve a few more steps and play some good cricket.

‘We have a lot of talent in the team, and a lot of young guys as well, so hopefully that will help us progress.’

Warner has made 10 appearances for the Thunder since making his debut in the Big Bash in 2011.

He will be joined in lime green by England wicketkeeper Sam Billings, former Test opening partner Cameron Bancroft and rising star Ollie Davies.

After retiring from the Test arena seven months ago, the former Australian season opener is officially a loanee in the cricket world.

Warner currently plays for the Boca Raton Trailblazers in a T10 league in the Cayman Islands called MAX60.

When Warner completes his commitment to the Sydney Thunder in January, he will join the Dubai Capitals as part of the United Arab Emirates ILT20.
