Australians have been criticized for putting their bare feet on the seats of a popular luxury cinema chain – with some even describing it as a ‘bogan act’.
As Timothy prepared to watch a movie at Event Cinemas in Toowoomba, Queensland, he was surprised by the sight of at least five fellow patrons lying with their bare feet on the seats.
He shared video footage on social media showing barefoot Australians visiting the luxury cinema, where ticket prices range from $33 to $66.
“On a personal note, you have a premium luxury experience in Australia. Should you at least wait until the lights go out?’ the video was subtitled.

Many Australians agreed that moviegoers should have waited until the lights dimmed before putting their feet up. One said: ‘Shoes come on and off again when the movie starts. I’m a stylish bogan.’
Another argued: ‘Shoes stay on except at the beach, pool or at home.’
A third expressed his frustration, saying: ‘This is why I don’t go to the movies. Who wants a side view of someone’s feet?’
A fourth said: ‘Disgusting’.
Opinion was divided on whether bare feet were acceptable, with some suggesting it was fine if socks were worn.
One wrote: ‘Shoes off, but with socks and a blanket,’ while another said: ‘Shoes off, but only when wearing loafers. Sneakers/boots stay on.”
Others believed that bare feet were okay under certain circumstances. ‘Only take off your shoes if your feet don’t smell of anything at all; otherwise you have to keep them,” said one person.
Another added, “When there’s no one in front of me, I feel like it’s my duty to let my puppies breathe.”
Some suggested the behavior could be specific to Queensland. “People should obviously take off their shoes since they’re only wearing thongs anyway,” one viewer joked.
Another agreed: ‘I knew it was Queensland without checking!’
