Aussie bloke quits job after winning $50million Lotto prize – and reveals his incredible plan for money

A Landsborough man has swapped his breakfast cereal for champagne to celebrate his “mind-changing” $50 million win in last night’s Oz Lotto draw.

The Sunshine Coast winner had the only Division 1 national winning entry in the Oz Lotto draw 1573, drawn on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. They will take home the entire $50 million jackpot.

The Queenslander is the third biggest winner of all lottery games so far in 2024.

While officials at The Lott tried to contact the new multi-millionaire last night, the winner only discovered his luck this morning when he saw several missed calls.

Although the entry is registered to an online account, The Lott officials were unable to contact the winner this evening using the contact details provided to deliver the life-changing news.

‘I’m a bit in shock. Is that true?’ laughed the winner.

‘Oh my God! It’s not big, buddy. It’s stunning!

‘I’m shaking.

‘I slept peacefully last night because I left my phone in another room. I had no idea until I saw all the missed calls this morning. I thought, ‘that’s unusual.’ Then I heard the voicemail and thought, ‘this is getting weird.’

‘I went through the card 15 times! Sh**!

‘This is mind-blowing. It means I can resign – that’s it!

‘When my bank manager asked me years ago what my retirement plans are, I said: ‘to win the lottery’. He just laughed at me. Well, I have!

“Another thing is paying off the mortgage. That’s the very first thing. For the first time, I become the sole owner of my house.

‘I don’t know how to feel. You made my day, made my life!

“I know it’s only early in the morning, but I think we’ll pop some champagne to celebrate.”

The man’s winning six-match QuickPick entry was purchased on The Lott website – the official home of the Australian lotteries.

So far this year there have been four Oz Lotto Division 1 wins across Australia, taking home a combined $90 million in prize money – with two wins each in Queensland and New South Wales.
