A billionaire Australian beef magnate is suing an insurance company after he shelled out $1.2 million to repair his 55-meter superyacht, one of the country’s largest luxury ships.

Trevor Lee, 73, owns the $25 million motor yacht, Keri Lee III, which he named after his award-winning fashion designer, Keri Craig-Lee.

The couple established the Australian Country Choice red meat supply chain, while Mrs Craig-Lee also founded the fashion label, Keri Craig, and designed and coordinated Sir Elton John’s wedding in Sydney in 1984.

Mr Lee is suing insurance company QBE through his charter company, Keri Lee Charters Pty Ltd, in a Brisbane federal court in an attempt to get the insurer to pay the $1,224,072 it spent to repair the damage. to Keri Lee III, reports the mail.

The vessel was being transported to Brisbane when it allegedly sustained a dent, hull scratches, damage to the bow rail and the friction strip on both sides of the vessel.

The Keri Lee III was built by Trinity Yachts in the USA in 2001.

It has accommodation for up to 12 people in six suites that include a master suite, a VIP cabin and four double cabins.

There are six berths on the yacht, with four king beds and two doubles.

The superyacht features a state-of-the-art movie theater, beauty salon, bar, deck Jacuzzi, gym, and two dinghy.

Guests can also enjoy using the two jet skis, water skis, scuba gear, wakeboards, kayaks, and beach games on board.

The Keri Lee III has space for up to 12 crew members, including a chef and masseuse.

The yacht had a refit in 2016 and was refurbished in 2020.

Lee rents out his superyacht for up to $365,000 a week through his company.

The beef boss alleges that the damage to the Keri Lee III occurred on May 10, 2020, in a port in the city of Genoa, Italy.

Keri Lee Charters claims the ship was being loaded onto a transport ship for its return journey to Brisbane when it was damaged.

The yacht allegedly came into ‘contact’ with the ship on her starboard side and two steel mooring posts on her port side while being loaded.

Two days later, the claim alleges that the yacht fell onto its port side from a ‘wooden support’ and the underside of the hull smashed into several steel supports.

Mr. Lee had originally filed a claim for $1.06 million through his charter company on August 11, 2020. QBE accepted liability and agreed to compensate the meat magnate.

Keri Lee Charters is continuing repairs to the superyacht stemming from the incident in 2020.
