Young Aussie in Bali is left close to tears after uncovering hidden message on restaurant receipt

A young Australian woman nearly cried when she saw a comment on the receipt of a takeaway meal she ordered from a restaurant in Bali.

Montana visited the Indonesian island, bought some dishes and saw the name ‘Ms Cantik’ on the receipt.

She looked closer and saw that the name referred to her, namely to one of the customers.

Montana took to TikTok on June 26 to reveal the shocking moment she discovered the hidden detail.

“I bet she expected me not to know this word in Indonesian, but I did,” she said.

Montana explained that normally the staff asks for her name on the order, but in this case they didn’t.

“I thought they were supposed to remember…wrong. They put a description in Indonesian as my order name,” she said.

“What she didn’t know was that it was on the receipt.”

The restaurant staff is said to have used this name to identify customers’ orders.

Montana then asked the waiter if it was her name.

The word ‘cantik’ means ‘beautiful’ in Bahasa, an Indonesian language. That’s why Montana was also called ‘Mrs. Beautiful’.

“I almost cried,” Montana said.

She showed a copy of the receipt that was on top of the brown bag.

Social media users may have found the term disrespectful.

“I thought it was rude but how stupid of me to forget that Indonesians, especially in Bali, are the nicest people,” one person wrote.

“Why did I think that was such an ugly word!” said another.
