Barrage of bullets is fired into an Auburn home before gunmen flee and set fire to getaway car in latest gangland attack

A new gangland attack has hit Sydney after as many as ten bullets were fired into a house.

Locals reported that two men wearing balaclavas were shot at the house on Chisholm Rd in Auburn, in Sydney’s western suburbs, just after 3pm.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said they were called to the scene but were ‘under no obligation’ to treat anyone.

Police were told that the men in dark clothing were seen running from a car that had been set on fire in Carramar, about 7 km west of the shooting, about 15 minutes later.

Footage from the scene shows the silver sedan engulfed in flames with a jerry can left on the road next to it.

A local resident attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but due to its severity the fire could only be extinguished by firefighters who arrived shortly afterwards.

Local police, the Dog Squad and PolAir are investigating the area around Atkin Street where two men were reportedly last seen exiting the vehicle.

“Both incidents are believed to be linked and crime scenes have been identified at the locations which will be investigated by specialist officers,” read a statement from NSW Police.

Anyone with further information, including dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.

It comes after an escalation in shootings believed to be linked to Sydney’s underworld.

The public attacks included five targeted shootings in one week in mid-July.

They add to the dozens of tit-for-tat gang shootings that have hit the city since 2020, following a war between rival crime organizations.

Three men burst into the apartment of a 29-year-old man on Figtree Drive, in the city’s west, before shooting him several times just before 3am last Friday.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the victim at the scene before taking him to hospital for further treatment.

He suffered serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

Police are investigating whether a burnt-out silver 4WD, found near Lidcombe, was used as the trio’s getaway car.

There’s more to come.
