Aubrey Plaza deletes her Instagram account one week after husband Jeff Baena’s shock death at 47

Aubrey Plaza has deleted her Instagram account a week after the tragic death of her husband Jeff Baena at the age of 47.

The 40-year-old actress’s social media account has been deactivated, with a message on her page informing her followers: ‘Sorry, this page is unavailable.’

The decision to remove her page comes a few days after Plaza broke her silence following news of her husband’s death by suicide.

In a brief statement obtained by DailyMail, a representative for the actress said: ‘This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are very grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

The statement came after Plaza had to skip her presenting duties at the 82nd annual Golden Globes in Los Angeles last Sunday.

Plaza was unveiled by the show as host in a press release on Friday – the same day Los Angeles County Medical Examiner officials confirmed Baena was found dead in a home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, ruling it a suicide by hanging .

Although Plaza was not present at the Golden Globes Sunday, The Brutalist director Brady Corbet, 36, mentioned her and Baena after they won for Best Director.

“Finally, tonight my heart goes out to Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family – good night,” Corbet said, as cameras panned to an emotional Adrien Brody, 51, in the audience, as The Brutalist star fought back tears .

Although Baena had not received any Golden Globe nominations in his career, he did receive a few Grand Jury Prize nods for two of his films at the Sundance Film Festival. Among them were Joshy in 2016 and Life After Beth in 2014.

Plaza has been inundated with condolences following the death of her husband, while colleagues including Julia Fox and Selma Blair were among those offering the actress-producer, 40, words of comfort in the wake of the family tragedy.

Baena was found dead early Friday in a Los Angeles home, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office said, ultimately ruling that he had committed suicide by hanging.

Fox, 34, wrote in the thread, “Sending you so much love” with a dove emoji.

She was unveiled by the show as a host in a press release on Friday — the same day Los Angeles County Medical Examiner officials confirmed Baena was found dead in a home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.

She also posted a statement from actor-comedian Adam Pally, 42, a friend and collaborator of Baena, who praised him on a personal and professional level.

“He was a collaborator, a mentor, the dirtiest basketball player with the ugliest jump shot you ever saw,” Pally said. ‘He was a talented director with impeccable taste and vision, he was a connector of people, an enabler of possibility, the man who knew where the best restaurant was, wherever you were.’An overly gracious host with an almost disturbing openness door policy, a film encyclopedia, and especially for me, a friend.’

Pally ended by saying, “My heart breaks for my friend Aubrey and the Baena family and for all of us who spent time on his sets or at his home or in or at his job. Thank you for believing in me Jeff, may your memory be a blessing.”

On Plaza’s Instagram, actress-producer Barbara Crampton, 66, wrote to Plaza: “I’m sorry. I hope the love of others can keep you going.”

Actor-model Rain Dove, 35, wrote: “Aubrey, we love you so much and it is absolutely devastating to hear the news about your loved one.

‘We really wish you much protection during this time. Take all the space you need to process this. Don’t give in to the pressure to return to work sooner than feels right.’

A native of Miami, Baena studied his craft at New York University prior to pursuing a career in entertainment. Speaking to podcaster Marc Maron in 2017, Baena cited Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange and Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2 as highly influential in his decision to pursue a career as a creative.

Baena had directed five independent films in his career — four of which debuted at Sundance — including 2020’s Horse Girl and 2016’s Joshy. He also helmed a 2021 installment of the TV series Cinema Toast.
