Attorney-General Mark Dreyfuss read out colleague’s TWEET on TV when asked about Voice to Parliament

Watch the embarrassing moment that shows why most Australians are confused by the Indigenous Voice in Parliament…as even one of the biggest figures in the Labor Party is left exposed as having NO IDEA what it is about.

  • Attorney General Mark Dreyfus has been accused of ‘plagiarism’
  • Looked at the notes on the desk more than 20 times in 60 seconds
  • He didn’t acknowledge that he was reading someone else’s tweets.

The Labor attorney general has been exposed as knowing nothing about his government’s flagship Indigenous Voice policy to Parliament after being forced to answer a basic question while reading a colleague’s tweet on live TV.

Appearing on ABC TV’s 7:30 show on Monday night, Mark Dreyfus was asked by chief political correspondent Laura Tingle about Indigenous Voice in Parliament, looking at what must have been his phone 21 times in just a minute while I answered your questions.

What he was doing was reading almost word for word a series of tweets posted by his colleague, Australian indigenous minister Linda Burney, on Sunday night.

And at no point did Mr. Dreyfus indicate that he was reading notes or give credit to Ms. Burney for writing the content he was using.

“It seems the art of copycat has come to Canberra,” said 2GB breakfast presenter Ben Fordham, exposing the attorney general on Tuesday morning.

‘When asked about the lack of details (on the Indigenous Voice in Parliament), Mark Dreyfus kept looking down at the desk…

“In the space of 60 seconds, he looked at his notes 21 times,” Fordham said.

‘Mark Dreyfus, the top law enforcement officer in the country, was reading, practically word for word, a tweet written by someone else.

“I was stealing someone else’s homework.”

Fordham told his listeners that Ms Burney tweeted on Voice on Sunday night and laid out her thoughts as bullet points.

‘In one tweet, she had three points. Point 1: Linda Burney wrote “The Voice will provide independent advice to Parliament and the Government.”

Fordham then played a clip of Mr. Dreyfus saying the same thing, word for word.

Ms Burney’s second point read: ‘The Voice will be chosen by First Nations people based on the wishes of local communities.’

Mr Dreyfus said the almost identical ‘It’s going to be chosen by First Nations people based on the wishes of local communities’.

Ms Burney’s third point read: ‘The Voice will represent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.’

Dreyfus told ABC that “it’s going to be representative of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.”

Fordham was not impressed: ‘Mark, you’re not even trying. The whole thing is copied directly from a social media post by his colleague Linda Burney.

‘The Attorney General can’t answer basic questions without the cheat sheet.’

In a second tweet, Ms Burney added another three numbered points.

They were: 4) The Voice will be empowering, community led, inclusive, respectful, culturally informed and gender balanced. It will also include young people.

5) The Voice will be responsible and transparent. 6) The Voice will work alongside existing organizations and traditional structures.

At 7:30, Mr. Dreyfus again recited those lines almost verbatim and made the points in exactly the same order, and also did so with words from a third tweet sent by Ms. Burney.

“If it was a college assignment, you’d be accused of plagiarism and given an F,” Fordham said.

“Mark Dreyfus, you’ve been arrested for blatant cheating.

Fordham added that the 7.30 presenter, Laura Tingle, should have called Mr Dreyfus about the copy.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Mr Dreyfus and Ms Burney for comment.
