Atlanta Falcons plan to hire Raheem Morris as next head coach – report

The Atlanta Falcons plan to hire LA Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their next head coach, ESPN reported on Thursday.

Morris, 47, was the interim coach for Atlanta’s final 11 games of the 2020 season following the firing of Dan Quinn. He posted a record of 4-7. He also went 17-31 as coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11.

In all, the Falcons interviewed 13 candidates as a possible replacement for Arthur Smith, who was fired after his third consecutive 7-10 campaign. Atlanta hasn’t had a winning season or made the playoffs since 2017.

The most prominent candidate was Bill Belichick, who won a record six Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots before his more than two-decade tenure ended this month and he agreed to step down.
