  • Atalanta are reportedly closing in on a £21 million deal to sign Gianluca Scamacca
  • West Ham ‘sold’ the attacker after he arrived at the club for £ 30 million last year
  • David Moyes’ future at the club is becoming increasingly uncertain amid squabbles over recruitment

Atalanta are closing in on a deal to sign West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca and the striker is reportedly set to undergo a medical with the Serie A Club.

Mail Sport had previously stated that several Italian teams were interested in signing the 24-year-old this summer, with Inter Milan and Roma both interested in the striker.

But according to Fabrizio RomanoAtalanta has beaten both Italian giants to his signature.

He claims the Serie A club have reached an agreement with West Ham to acquire the striker for a ‘fixed fee of £21 million plus £4 million in add-ons’, adding that the deal is now ‘done’ and ‘ sealed’.

Romano understands that the ‘documents are being prepared and West Ham will sell the Italian striker’, before saying his ‘medical tests have been booked’ and that ‘the player will be traveling to Italy later today’.

West Ham have also reportedly included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal, but will make a loss on the deal after they signed the striker from Sassuolo for £30m last summer.

In the 12 months he has spent in East London, Scamacca has struggled to impress. He scored three goals in 16 Premier League appearances before a knee injury and a meniscus problem brought his season to an early end.

He also managed to contribute three goals to West Ham’s victorious Europa Conference League campaign, but has openly admitted that he wants to leave the club.

Earlier this summer, he teased a move to Roma, claiming ‘Jose Mourinho would improve me more’ and said ‘Roma is my home’.

‘Roma is my home,’ he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘And Totti my idol as a child. And what player in the world does not dream of being coached by Mourinho? I am convinced that Mou would stimulate me and with him I would become even better.’

After being priced out of a move to sign Folarin Balogun from Arsenal, Inter Milan have also been snooping on his availability.

But it looks like it will be Atalanta who will get their man and certainly won’t waste any time finding a replacement as the Serie A side will lose prolific striker Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, David Moyes’ future at the club is starting to look uncertain again at the London Stadium, with the Scottish manager currently embroiled in a row over the club’s recruitment.

The former Everton boss is keen to bring in players with Premier League experience, but is at odds with football’s director and owner, David Sullivan, over transfer targets.
