At least six people, including children, are missing after a house fire in which two police officers were shot during an active shooting near Philadelphia.

Police responded Wednesday around 3:45 p.m. to reports of an 11-year-old girl being shot in East Lansdowne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, although it is unclear whether a child was actually shot, reported NBC10.

While they were on scene, a fire broke out in the house. Officials say a large family lived in the home and at least six to eight people are still missing. Fox 29 Philadelphia.

“We are aware that at least six to eight people from that family are missing. It is our terrible fear that they might have been in that house when it was burned down,” said Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer.

‘We are hopeful that that is not true. But we won’t know until tomorrow morning.’

In the active shooter situation, two officers were shot dead, one in the leg and the other in the arm.

Both are in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, according to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office.

They are both 22-year veterans and are expected to recover. One officer works for the Lansdowne Police Department and the other works for the East Lansdowne Police Department.

The gunfire reportedly stopped around 6 p.m. and the fire is under control, but investigators won’t be able to enter the house until Thursday.

“Law enforcement in East Landsdowne responded to a call of an 11-year-old girl being shot. They responded immediately, came to the house and were shot at by someone inside the house,” Stollsteimer said.

“Right now the fire is under control and then we can go in and investigate to determine who the shooter was, if he’s still alive and if it was an 11-year-old girl.”

A neighbor told me WPVI, ‘I heard a lot of gunshots when I first came out of the store and about 10 minutes later I smelled the smoke. And I saw cops coming everywhere, running in their vests and stuff.”

“I heard (them) yelling, ‘active shooter, get in the house, barricade, don’t come out.’
