Officers were on scene to “facilitate the peaceful and lawful exercise of constitutional rights,” the LAPD said on Twitter.
The clash comes after the school announced an event to celebrate Pride month.
Parents set up an Instagram account called “saticoyelementaryparents” on May 16 to protest the school’s upcoming Pride rally, where teachers read a Mary Hoffman book titled “The Great Big Book of Families.”
There is talk of diversity and ‘all types of families’, including those with LGBTQ+ parents.
And just three days later, parents pulled their children from a class taught by a transgender substitute teacher, according to three school sources.
After the Instagram account was created, an intruder broke into the school and set the flag on fire.
A full-time teacher, who is a transgender man, discovered the remains in a plant pot that was also broken.
Anger among the school community has escalated over an upcoming Pride rally and parents have planned a protest against the “inappropriate” event on Friday.
The transgender teacher was removed from Saticoy Elementary School for his own safety, according to a source who wishes to remain anonymous.
