At least 20 people have been injured after an SUV crashed into a group of people training on a sports circuit in China.
Video footage posted on social media showed dozens of people lying quietly on the ground outside the running track of the Zhuhai Sports Center in Guangdong province, near Macau in southeastern China.
Many of the injured were wearing clothing intended for exercise, and were cared for by other members of the public.
Witnesses told local media that the injured included “a group of middle-aged and elderly people who were training on the track,” which was later surrounded by investigating officers.
“A passenger car hit a number of pedestrians at the sports center in the Xiangzhou district of Zhuhai city and drove away,” police said in a statement.
The cause of the incident has still not been determined.

Police have since arrested a 62-year-old man named Fan in connection with the incident at the sports center, which was built in 2008 for the Beijing Olympics and has been used by local groups since.
The sports center said online that it had suspended sports activities, adding that “a reopening time must be determined.”
Fatal traffic accidents are common in China, due to lax safety standards and widespread disorderly driving.
Six people died after a car lost control and crashed into bicycles and other vehicles on a bridge in central China’s Hunan province in September.
That same month, a school bus plowed into a crowd of people outside a high school in eastern China, killing 11 parents and students.
And in July, police said a vehicle rammed into pedestrians in the central city of Changsha, killing eight people and injuring five.
